The Saudi Anesthesia Society (SAS) has received the news of Dr. Mohamad Said Maani Takrouri's passing with great sorrow and sadness. The news has caused shock to many who knew him and to his students. Dr. Takrouri was considered a mentor of anesthesiology to many colleagues in the Middle East. Condolences and tributes have poured in from around the globe. He was a constant source of inspiration and knowledge to all of us and worked extremely hard to improve the status of our specialty, especially in developing countries. Dr. Takrouri graduated with Bachelor of Medicine, ChB, University Alexandria, Egypt, 1970. He appointed as house officer at Alexandria University, 1970–1971; and in Whipps Cross Hospital, London, 1971–1972. He was Senior house officer Bury and Rosendale Hospital, England, 1972-1973. Dr. Takrouri was Registrar in Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, Scotland, 1973-1978. In Jordan he was Assistant professor Jordan University, Amman, 1978-1987. He was promoted to Associate professor, professor, vice dean Medical School Jordan University of Science and Technology, Irbid, 1987-1991. He was Chief of Staff at Princess Basma Teaching Hospital, 1987-1991. Also he was Chairman Anesthesiology department at Hamad General Hospital, Doha, Qatar, 1991-1994. Dr. Takrouri worked with us as Professor anesthesiology King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and Deputy medical director anesthesia and Intensive Care Unit, King Khalid University Hospital 1994-2011. Dr. Takrouri has been listed as a noteworthy anesthesiology educator, consultant, and researcher by Marquis Who's Who. Dr. Takrouri was a fellow at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Dublin. Dr. Takrouri was the editor-in-chief of the journal Anesthesia: Essays and Researches. Dr. Takrouri was Member in many national and international societies namely; the Pan Arab Anesthesia Association, International Society History of Anesthesia, Saudi Anesthesia Association (board directors since 1993, editor newsletter), Egyptian Anesthesia Association, Syrian Anesthesia Association, World Federation Societies Anesthesia (executive member).

Dr. Takrouri is survived by his wife, two daughters, and one son. God bless his soul.
